Bridget – a student midwife in Kisiizi

Bridget is a single orphan whose father died when she was 8-years-old. Her mother left her behind with her paternal grandmother when she moved to Kampala. The mother maintains occasional contact with her daughter. 

Bridget was originally supported by a different charity with an orphan programme at Kisiizi but, while she was still at secondary school, that programme pulled out of child support and she would have been left destitute and unable to complete her education. Kisiizi Partners, however, stepped in and took over the support of all the children abandoned by that charity, meaning that she could continue her studies.

Bridget has three sisters, one of whom is also supported by Kisiizi Partners^*. Her older sister, who is not sponsored, is still at secondary school (an indication of the difference that being in the programme has made to Bridget’s prospects). She thanks her sponsors for helping her reach this point in her education.

Bridget likes to sing and watch YouTube videos about birth. She expects to qualify with a Certificate in Midwifery from the Kisiizi Hospital School of Nursing and Midwifery in the middle of 2025.

* There are many needy children living in the area surrounding Kisiizi and Kisiizi Partners doesn’t have the resources to support them all. We have found that helping one or two children in a family results in (admittedly lesser) benefits their unsupported siblings, too.
